AK Glück-Teigland

Arne-Kristian Glück-Teigland, grew up on a farm in Øystese in Hardanger. He gained an early interest in outdoor life through his adventures in jeans and hiking boots with his father and in the scouts he learned to sleep in a wet sleeping bag.

Introduce yourself!

43 years old. Originally from Øystese in Hardanger. One of 4 permanent residents of Finse and working at Hotel Finse 1222.

What kind of activities do you do?

I spend some time on mountain hikes on foot and on skis. Both short and long hikes. I like to daydream about new angles and hiking destinations that I want to master or experience. The list is long!

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about experiencing the simple outdoor life without too much complex equipment. The surroundings can often be complex with demanding weather and conditions, but the safety and joy lies in the fact that there are simple rules to make life good.

Name some highlights/achievements that you are proud of.

The highlights are many and become even better when sharing experiences with others. Preferably larger hiking projects where you jointly outline the direction of the project and carry it out as a team.

What or who has inspired you to keep doing what you do?

I have a great respect for local sheep farmers in Hardanger who have the mountains as their work place. They are rock solid, steady, keep their mouth shut and focus on the work.

What environmentally conscious choices do you make in everyday life and when you are out hiking?

I love to use things up! I patch and sew together old shoes and clothes until they die. My underwear is soon more patches than fabric!

What is your best hiking experience? And worst?

It is often the case that the most recent one is the best. I often have such total experiences where I am completely present in the moment. Floods of emotions that prove that I will never forget those moments. I can't handle bad hiking experiences. You can always find something positive!

Have you ever been scared while hiking?

I have never been frozen and never been scared.

What is the best thing about being out in nature?

Humans are part of nature and belong outdoors. It is wonderful to take a walk that brings joy to both the body, eyes and mind.

Where is your dream trip?

My next low-threshold dream trip will be in three days, a long trip over the mountains from Øystese to Voss. As for bigger trips, I will not say no to a solo trip to the South Pole for the winter.

Where would you like to be right now?

I am so lucky that I would not wish to be anywhere else than where I am right now: at the Sognefjellshytta with beautiful ski slopes outside.

Where will you be in 10 years?

Fortunately, I have no plans or ideas where I will be. I hope I am alive! One listens to things one remembers.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I am almost religiously obsessed with British heavy metal, especially Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

What are your favorite shoes from ALFA?

Skarvet mountain ski shoes. They tolerate everything and never fail me.
